BEEBO Part 8

"Still manages to crack me up..."

submission: BEEBO Part 8
date: November 6, 2003

I still remember watching old Beebo cartoons months ago so when this thing was released, I was pretty excited about it. Granted, it took me a while to realize it was out (must have missed it when it was on the Portal page, although I'm not exactly sure how the hell I did that) but I can tell you right now that it was exactly what I expected it to be. The graphics and everything probably aren't the best but you know what? When you create a classic series on Newgrounds and make it so popular that a line from it actually appears in a major Hollywood movie (the line 'What the sh*t?' actually appeared in "The Matrix Revolutions; probably not even related but it's still cool), you don't need to worry about the quality of your graphics. Just as long as you have the style and the humor, which you totally do, then you can do no wrong with your Flash animations. Great work, dude. Loving every second of it. Oh yeah, and my mother was a saint.

Author's Response:

Hmm, I'll have to find out if the Wachowskis have seen Beebo.

***OW, MY GRAY MATTER***

"Very artistic animation!"

date: November 3, 2003

This is probably one of the more interesting Flash animations that I've seen in a while. It's very abstract and although I'm pretty sure there's no real meaning behind any of those images, it's the type of thing that really makes you think after a while. The static sound only adds to the effect and well, this may just be me, but this whole thing kind of reminded me of "The Ring". That's okay though; I love that movie. Anyways, I'm hooking you up with a 3, man. Great job and well, I'm actually looking forward to more stuff like this. I'm loving your style. Keep it up.

The Megatrix: Part 1

"This really has nothing to do with "The Matrix"..."

date: November 3, 2003

Wow. A sprite animation with barely any sound, barely any animation and with all the skill of being able to play the kazoo. This thing was about as exciting as wiping my ass with sandpaper. You should really try something different, you know? I mean, you seem to me like the type of person who only does Megaman sprite animations. It's not like we need any more of those on Newgrounds anyways so you're already down a few points for originality. How you got a score of above 2.00 is beyond me, but all I'm saying is that you should try something new. That having been said, I still don't get how the hell this fits in with "The Matrix" at all. Just because you refer to some guy as an 'agent' and just because Megaman decides to 'plug himself in' at the beginning, you think it relates to the movie? Oh, and don't even get me started on the ending... You're getting a 2 from me now, but that's only because I'm a nice guy and I feel kind of guilty about leaving you such a crappy review. In any other case, I would have just given you a 1 and left it at that...

Stick Figure Penalty: C2

"Who ever said that stick Flashes were bad?"

date: November 3, 2003

Normally, when people say "sticks" on Newgrounds, people think crappy rip-offs of Xiao Xiao. They think crappy DBZ fight movies created by 13-year old kids who just downloaded the Flash trial for free. They think free blam points that took five minutes to make. Not if you mention the name "Ringfinger" in the same sentence though. You, my friend, have just changed all of Newgrounds' perspectives on what a stick movie should be like. With all the beautifully animated stick Flashes that you've done, you've raised the bar on an entire genre of Flash movies. I'm a big fan of your work and even though it took you three months to complete this thing, I don't think a single person here can say that they were disappointed. The animation was awesome, the sound was awesome, the death sequences were spectacular... It's just too damn good for words, man. Keep up the damn fine work.

The Zombie Takeover

"Great animation, but a little short..."

date: November 2, 2003

The animation on this Flash is pretty damn good. You must be proud. I love all the gross little details on all the zombies too, and well, the music really seemed to fit with what was going on in the animation. But yeah, the detail here is what sets this Flash apart from all the others. I love how you animated every oozing sore, every rip in the protagonist's clothing, and even the rings in the wood on the side of the door. My only complaint is how short this turned out. Then again, that's probably only because I wanted to see more of your awesome animation. Just in time for Halloween too. Great work, Chris.

My worst nightmare!

"You submit tons of stuff..."

date: October 31, 2003

But how much of it actually turns out to be good? I'm not really saying that all the stuff you submit is bad, but you seem to be more of a quantity-submitter than a quality-submitter. You just keep pumping out stuff, and well, none of it is going to get you any awards anytime soon aside from Turd Of The Week. That having been said, this Flash is nothing spectacular. The backgrounds are non-existent, there's no voice-acting and all you did was cover up the entire animation with a song that didn't even fit with the theme. This Flash doesn't deserve to be blammed, but it's really really close. You're getting a 2 from me, and don't expect anything better. Even that is being a little generous.

The Square Root of Cheese

"Random animations are usually bad, but..."

date: October 31, 2003

The animation in this Flash was pretty damn good. Well, you know, for being a random Flash. You just don't expect a lot of detail when you know you're going to watch a bunch of sticks get killed mindlessly. Still, this animation really cracked me up. I don't think I've seen anything quite so funny in a while now. I like the first two parts a lot more than the last three though. The fast-paced punk music seemed to fit well with all the weird-ass action going on, and unfortunately, the rest of the Flash just seemed dull in comparison. I'd like to see you make another random Flash, but this time, keep the music going all the way through. Only having music for half the piece kind of made it seem incomplete, you know? Oh, and I love the Stick Population counter. Kind of reminds me of that South Park episode where they try and record how many times they say the S-word. Anyways, great job on this one. I never really liked random animations, but this one was pretty amusing. You're getting a solid 3 from me.

Silver Shamrock

"Great "Halloween 3" reference, man!"

submission: Silver Shamrock
date: October 30, 2003

A lot of people here probably don't get this joke, but I love how you took the Silver Shamrock sequence from "Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch" and turned it into this. The graphics are pretty good, and the thing's pretty short, but hey, it's not like this has to be long, right? The only thing that bugs me about this is the crappy sound quality. Then again, you're trying to jack the sound off a movie from the mid-80's, so getting the sound just right must be pretty hard. You know, I only love this because I get the joke, but if I never saw "Halloween 3", I'd probably only give this a 2. But since I have seen the movie, I'm tagging this Flash with a 3. Not exactly a good job, but not exactly a bad one either. Keep it up.

Gorillaz - THE RING

"Hilarious combination!"

date: October 28, 2003

Well, Samara and Gorillaz were never really meant to mix but this Flash was very well presented. The animation was great though, especially the backgrounds, and they look as if they were taken right out of the movie itself. The sound quality was great too, but hey, my opinion might be biased just because I love that "Clint Eastwood" song. There's only one thing in this Flash that kind of annoys me and that's the whole eyes and mouth on Samara thing. You should at least put those features on a face or something instead of just having them sit there on the hair. Kind of ruined the feel of the piece, you know? Aside from that, you did an excellent job, man. Proving once again that Newgrounds is the only place in the world where two things from completely different ends of the spectrum can mix together to form a wonderful and hilarious piece of art. Awesome, awesome stuff. The 5 I just gave you was well-deserved...

The Loss

"Very touching animation..."

submission: The Loss
date: October 27, 2003

Wow, this whole Flash is pretty emotional. Even though the characters in the animation were just cartoon rabbits, you really felt for the protagonist when he thinks back to his girlfriend and how she ran off with some other fuzzy critter. I mean, the choice of music was great, the style was amazing and well, it's nice to see something serious on Newgrounds every once in a while. My only complaint comes from the fact that the music just cuts off about twenty seconds before the Flash animation really ends, so the rather dramatic climax is watched in pure silence. Kind of kills the effect too, seeing as how the rest of the thing has that music to go along with it. However, if you were to fix up just that one little bit, you'd be getting high scores all over the place. You're getting a 5 from me tonight, but that's only because I want to see it pass judgement. I'll still be voting 4's on this thing every few days. Awesome work, dude. Keep it up.
